Are the suns rays mechanical waves or electromagnetic waves ?

• Sun rays are example of electromagnetic wave which can propagate in a vacuum like the outer space. Sun emits infrared, visible light and ultraviolet radiation which are all examples electromagnetic wave but our eyes are only sensitive to visible light which means our eyes can only detect visible light but cannot detect infrared and ultraviolet radiation.

How do you know ?

• electromagnetic wave can travel in the vacuum and the outer space is an example of vacuum or empty space. Since sun rays able to travel in a vacuum therefore, it is considered as electromagnetic wave since Mechanical wave cannot travel in a vacuum.
