Discuss the importance of microorganism in the environment and how these organisms help maintain the ecological balance of the ecosystem. Provide an example.

 

Microorganisms play a vital role in the environment. Microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and protozoans are what we call decomposers. They decompose the tissues of dead organisms to get their food, in a way they give back nutrients into the soil which would later on be absorbed by producers which provides us food. Example

When an animal dies, bacteria serves as a decomposer which decomposes the corpse. They recycle nutrients that are mixed with the soil. The plants absorb them which gives us food. Without microorganisms the food chain would be broken and we wont have food to eat.
